Hexal Speed
Estimated Play Time:
10-15 min per round
Play Style:
Simultaneous Play
Objective:
Play matching cards as quickly as possible.
Rules and Gameplay:
- Shuffle the deck of 216 cards thoroughly.
- Deal out a stack of 24 cards face-down to each player.
- Each player draws the top 6 cards from their stack into their hand. The remaining stack remains face-down for later use.
- Players may look at and organize the cards in their hand.
- When players are ready, begin play by flipping over 1 card from the remaining deck and place it face-up on the table. This card becomes the "target card.” Each target card has three attributes: color, shape, and number.
- Play is simultaneous. Any player may play cards from their hand at any time as long as they match one of the attributes (color, shape, or number) of the target card.
- When a player plays a card, call out the value of the matching attribute (eg. “blue”, “five”, “pinwheel”) and place it on top of the target card. The newly played card becomes the new target card for all players to try to match.
- When a player has no cards left in their hand, they must call out "Hexal" or “Stop” to pause the game.
- All players then draw cards from the top of their stack until they have 6 cards in their hand. If a player's stack has fewer than 6 cards, they draw all of the remaining cards from their stack.
- Move the target stack to the side allowing space for a new target card to be flipped.
- When players are ready, flip over 1 new target card from the remaining deck and place it face-up on the table. Begin play as soon as the target card has been placed.
- The game continues until one player’s stack is gone and they have played all the cards from their hand. The player who played all of their cards first wins the round.
- Any time during play; if all players have remaining cards in their hand, but no players have playable cards in their hand matching the target card, move the target stack to the side and flip a new target card from the target deck.
